Our Family Table: Moderation

A Daily Devotional by Kenton Cheek

Reading From Proverbs 25-26

“If you find honey, eat just enough—
too much of it, and you will vomit.” —Proverbs 25:16

If platters of my favorite foods were set before me and I am in an undisciplined mood, I would eat until I’m sick to my stomach. When it comes to tasty treats, moderation is not my strong suit. But you know what is remarkable? No matter what I struggle with, God still loves me and can help me.

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. Even those of us that love the Lord wrestle with all kinds of temptations. The Spirit lives within us, but the sinful nature fights against keeping in step with what God wants for our lives. God wants deliverance and freedom for His kids. Take the advice of Yahweh through King Solomon: partake of just enough and you won’t get sick.

“Lord God, help Your children find balance and moderation in daily life. May we recognize that in many cases, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Give us wisdom and direction and the strength to know when to stop. Amen.”

Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.Philippians 4:5
