Reading From I Kings 5-6, II Chronicles 2-3
“This must be a magnificent Temple because our God is greater than all other gods. But who can really build him a worthy home? Not even the highest heavens can contain him! So who am I to consider building a Temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices to him?”
Solomon’s Temple, as the Tabernacle before it, are earthly symbols of spiritual reality for the children of God. Not only are our individual bodies temples of the Holy Spirit, but as we grow in faith and unity, we are being brought together to form one mighty temple in which God dwells. God does not live in temples made by human hands, but in the hearts of every blood-washed, Spirit-filled believer.
“God, I pray that your children will endeavor to take better care of Your temples. As we obey your Great Commandment to love others we love ourselves, I pray that we would see ourselves as You see us, set apart for Your holy purposes and dearly loved. Let us also tend to the mighty Temple which is Your Bride, the Church universal. I pray that we would treat each other with love, dignity and respect. May we encourage one another as Your Holy Spirit leads. Amen.”
The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. –Acts 17:24
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. –I Corinthians 6:19-20
“You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual houseto be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” –I Peter 2:5
