Our Family Table: Stand Upon His Promises

A Daily Devotional by Kenton Cheek

Reading From Psalm 119:89-176

“Your word, Lord, is eternal;
    it stands firm in the heavens.
Your faithfulness continues through all generations;
    you established the earth, and it endures.”

–Psalm 119:89-90

     No matter what happens upon the Earth, nothing can change the Word of God.  Even if every physical Bible in the world were to be destroyed (God forbid), because His Word “stand firm in the heavens,” the entirety of His promises would remain unchanged.  There is no foundation as certain and sure as every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.  He is dependable and trustworthy and that is part of why I love Him.

I take great comfort in the knowledge that my circumstances do not change the steadfast character of Almighty God. The storms of life cannot shift the Rock that I am building my life on. My moods, beliefs, thoughts, actions, triumphs, failures, good times, bad times, whatever it may be, nothing affects His existence or His nature. He is “the same yesterday, today and forever” according to Hebrews 13:8.

“Lord, I pray that I would continue to build my life upon the bedrock of You and Your Word.  Thank You for being there for me no matter how bleak life might seem.  Sometimes situations seem so hopeless, but in the certainty of Your promises I find peace, strength and encouragement.  I love You Jesus.  Amen.”

He will be the sure foundation for your times,
    a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge;
    the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.

 –Isaiah 33:6
