Reading From I Chronicles 26-29

“‘All this,’ David said, ‘I have in writing as a result of the Lord’s hand on me, and he enabled me to understand all the details of the plan.’

David also said to Solomon his son, ‘Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished. The divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the work on the temple of God, and every willing person skilled in any craft will help you in all the work. The officials and all the people will obey your every command.’”

–I Chronicles 28:19-21

Even though the idea of a permanent building was David’s idea rather than the Lord’s, it was a desire of David’s heart to be gift, an act of worship unto God and so Yahweh honored this desire and the Spirit spoke to the king and inspired the plans.  David’s encouragement to Solomon reminds me of God’s encouragement to Joshua at the beginning of the conquest of Canaan and it is encouragement that we can take to heart for our own lives and the things God has called us to.

Trepidation and timidity are rampant in the world today.  The pressure to go with the flow discourages anyone from making waves by doing a new thing or something that is counter to our culture.  God calls us to do things that go against prevailing wisdom of the times.

Be bold!  Be strong!  Be courageous!  These are virtues which fly in the face of a society riddled with anxiety and fear.  We are so unsure of everything, and doubt is far more common than confidence. When we have placed our faith and trust in God, He will never leave us, fail us or forsake us.

“God, You are our Rock and our strong Deliverer.  Whom shall we fear?  You have blessed us and exalted above Yourself Your Name and Your Word.  Therefore, grant us the courage we need to do what is right.  Give us strength and power to do Your work upon the Earth.  Thank You for moving and shaking in our lives and the world around us.  Your love has a way of shaking things up!  Increase our faith and move the mountains out of our way in Jesus’ Name.  Amen!”

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

–Romans 8:31

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

–Philippians 1:6
