Reading From II Samuel 19-21

“They buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the tomb of Saul’s father Kish, at Zela in Benjamin, and did everything the king commanded. After that, God answered prayer in behalf of the land.”

–II Samuel 21:14

Even though they were dead, David respected Saul the Lord’s anointed and his best friend Jonathan.  In addition to this act of kindness, we see the people following the lead of the king which is refreshing after one rebellion after another.  Faith honors God and God honors faith. Rebellion caused famine but obedience brought abundance. We reap what we sow.  Answered prayer followed the honor of David and the obedience of the people.  This is a wonderful example for all of us to follow.

“When justice is done on earth, vengeance from heaven ceases. God is pacified, and is entreated for us through Christ, who was hanged on a tree, and so made a curse for us, to do away our guilt, though he was himself guiltless.” –Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary

“Lord, I pray that I would do what is honorable and right and that I will follow You in humble obedience.  Thank You for hearing my prayer and for loving me.  Amen.”

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

–II Chronicles 7:14
