Reading From II Samuel 10, I Chronicles 19, and Psalm 20
“Now this I know:
The Lord gives victory to his anointed.
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
with the victorious power of his right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
–Psalm 20:6-7
While we live in our present reality, it is easy and common for believers to get caught up in thinking about life from a worldly perspective. As children of God, we are to rely on Him who has blessed us with everything we need or could ever want as long as our desires align with His priorities. Therefore, our trust is not to be in jobs, money, investments, property or any material possessions. Our source is in Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Everything in this world will fail us, but God never fails and never gives up on those who are His. When we realize God is our Provider, Defender and Protector, we can rest easy knowing that He’s got our backs.
“God, thank You that You are Jehovah Jireh, our Provider. I don’t have to worry about the future because I know You are bigger than any problem I might face. Thank You Lord for Your love and care. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.”
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
–Jesus, Matthew 6:25-34
