Reading From Psalm 106-107
“Praise the Lord.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord
or fully declare his praise?
Blessed are those who act justly,
who always do what is right.
Remember me, Lord, when you show favor to your people,
come to my aid when you save them,
that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones,
that I may share in the joy of your nation
and join your inheritance in giving praise.”
–Psalm 106:1-5
Who can “fully declare His praise?” No one, because the measure of His goodness and greatness are unfathomable! How wonderful is our loving God and there is no end to His goodness and mercy to His people. Sometimes within our faith there are truths emphasized while others are not given proper attention. This leads to imbalance in our daily walks with the Lord.
Yes, there are times when the Spirit calls us to focus on something important for us to learn, but it is also vital that we seek the whole counsel of God; we must absorb truth from the entirety of Scripture with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Love, justice, mercy, holiness and simply doing what is right are all virtues that ought to be part of our lives as believers at all times and in all seasons.
These are qualities that should define the people of God. We are called to be “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”[1]
It is good to be reminded that as a nation of kings and priests, queens and priestesses, we are to minister to others in love with mercy and justice. May we never forget that God leads us to do the right thing and when we aren’t sure of what that is, inquire of Him through prayer, His Word and the fellowship of other believers. God is faithful to give us the answers we need.
“In a world that seems untethered from any moral anchors, I pray that You would be our Light and the Rock of our salvation. Bless us with spiritual wisdom and understanding to distinguish the difference between right and wrong. Grant the courage we need to follow through in putting our faith into action. Empower us with Your Spirit and change the world around us. In the Name of King Jesus I pray. Amen.”
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. –James 1:5
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
–Micah 6:8
