Reading From Joshua 12-15
“But to the tribe of Levi Moses had given no inheritance; the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as He had said to them.”
–Joshua 13:33
This section of Joshua goes into great detail regarding the conquest of Canaan and how the land was divided up among the tribes of Israel. This verse in chapter thirteen stood out to me because the same is true for all born-again children of the Most High God. It is reminiscent of what Yahweh said to Abram in Genesis fifteen, “After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: ‘Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.’” John the Revelator saw God’s dream coming true when he recorded, ‘I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.’”
God’s desire is to be with us. Hebrews 12:2 says, “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. He didn’t somehow become more wealthy or powerful or glorious because of His triumph on the cross and in the garden. The joy set before Him is us. We are His reward and He is our reward. Just to be with Him is greater than anything we could ever experience. Jesus prayed, “I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
“Lord, I have just barely scratched the surface of the deep revelation of what my destiny is in You. I cannot thank You enough that You want to be with me. I am humbled by Your love. Your Presence is present enough. I love You Jesus. Amen.”
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.
–Revelation 22:1-5
