Reading From Deuteronomy 1-2
“The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.”
–Deuteronomy 2:7
One of the Names of God is Jehovah Jireh, which means “I AM Provides.” Our God has promised to provide our every need, right when we need it. Heavenly Father takes good care of His children. Quite often it is once we’ve been through a wilderness experience and have the benefit of hindsight that we can see the miraculous ways that He has woven together elements of our lives to bring us exactly what we need.
Part of what brings such comfort to me when I read this passage is seeing the Presence of God with His people. Not only is He with them, He is actively watching over them and providing for them. He is Immanuel, which means “God with us.” Psalm 34:10 tells me that, “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” Seeking the Lord is an important component necessary for the health and success of this life-giving relationship.
Many people don’t bother to believe let alone look for what God wants for them or put His ways into practice. Without faith it is impossible to please God. This faithless inactivity coincides with a bewildering confusion about why God isn’t blessing their lives. If only they would dare to trust God, they would discover that when they do so, He is faithful to reward those who earnestly seek Him.[1]
“Thank You Jehovah Jireh for providing everything I need for life and godliness. Strengthen my faith in times of testing that I might rely upon You. Thank You for keeping every single promise You have made. You are faithful even when I’m not. You are the perfect Parent for our eternal family. I am grateful for Your Presence, protection and provision. You are a good, good Father. I love You! Amen.”
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
–James 1:17
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
–II Peter 1:3
And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it.For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
–Luke 12:29-31
