Reading From Numbers 26-27

“The daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They came forward and stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders and the whole assembly at the entrance to the tent of meeting and said, “Our father died in the wilderness. He was not among Korah’s followers, who banded together against the Lord, but he died for his own sin and left no sons. Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.”

So Moses brought their case before the Lord, and the Lord said to him, “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their father’s relatives and give their father’s inheritance to them.”

–Numbers 27:1-7

One of the things I love about the Lord is that no matter what the prevailing cultural norms are in the times and places His people live in, we see glimpses of His will being done.  Here it is recorded thousands of years ago, God wanted these women to own property in their own right and continue their family’s legacy.  In every context, God’s way is best.

Imagine what marvelous freedom and abundance would and will be experienced when we allow the Father to have His perfect way among us as the children of the Most High God surrender their wills to His and yield to the movement of the Holy Spirit.  In Joel, Acts and in our modern times we see the promise and the fulfillment of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on both sons and daughters.  If we are to see the peoples of the world born into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, we must have all hands on deck.  This means men AND women joining together and using their God-given gifts and talents for His glory.

“Thank You God that our value and liberty comes from You alone.  Help me to respect everyone around me and see the potential in individuals for good.  I praise You that anyone, regardless of gender or background or ethnicity, is able to come to You in faith and be redeemed.  Rescue us from the miry pit of our sins and place our feet firmly on the Rock.  Enable us with the power of Your love and wisdom to genuinely appreciate and value one another as image-bearers of You.”

So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

–Galatians 3:26-29

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

–II Corinthians 3:17
