Reading From Numbers 7

“When Moses finished setting up the tabernacle, he anointed and consecrated it and all its furnishings. He also anointed and consecrated the altar and all its utensils. Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of families who were the tribal leaders in charge of those who were counted, made offerings. They brought as their gifts before the Lord six covered carts and twelve oxen—an ox from each leader and a cart from every two. These they presented before the tabernacle.

The Lord said to Moses, ‘Accept these from them, that they may be used in the work at the tent of meeting. Give them to the Levites as each man’s work requires.’”

–Numbers 7:1-4

We have already learned in Scripture that God sets His people apart as holy unto Him.  We are to live consecrated lives, set apart for the purposes of God.  He has called us to worship, evangelize, disciple, minister and fellowship all for His glory and for our good.  Here in Numbers 7, we see that objects, in addition to people, can be anointed and set apart for holy purposes.  It is important to be reminded that objects are tools to be used to honor God.  Objects are not to be worshipped; rather, they are to be used to worship God.

“God, remind me of where my priorities are to be.  Help me keep my focus on You.  May I be about my Father’s business.  Let me see money, facilities, and other things as tools to be used to honor You and do Your work upon the Earth.  Empower me to fulfill the purposes for my life and for Your children that are found in Your Word.  Amen.”

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
