Reading From Numbers 5-6
“The Lord said to Moses, ‘Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:
‘The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.’
‘So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.’”
Numbers 6:22-27
Even in giving Moses and Aaron the 613 rules of the Mosaic Law, God reveals His heart for His children. Yahweh’s desire is to bless and keep them, be a light to them, and have them experience His grace and peace. I love the concept of God putting His Name on His people. We are called by His Name and we belong to Him. The children of God enjoy their Father’s provision and protection. In our eternal family we find our sense of belonging with our Heavenly Father.
I love when ministers offer this passage as their benediction. It makes me feel cared for not only by whoever is ministering to us, but I feel the love of God beaming through His Word by the power of the Holy Spirit. Some followers of Jesus have served Him for decades, others only a few days. No matter how much or how little we know about God, it is always good to be reminded of His character and how He feels about us. All of His thoughts toward you and I are holy. He always wants what is best for His children.
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love. I am so overwhelmed by how much You care about us. I praise Your holy Name for such as only You could save, heal, empower, protect, provide, and fill our hearts with hope. Praise and honor, glory and power belong to You, the Great I AM. May we reflect Your glory as we bear Your image to those who are hurting and lost. Guide Your children forward in faith to our eternal destiny as partakers of Your divine glory. Amen.”
We have heard it with our ears, O God;
our ancestors have told us
what you did in their days,
in days long ago.
With your hand you drove out the nations
and planted our ancestors;
you crushed the peoples
and made our ancestors flourish.
It was not by their sword that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them victory;
it was your right hand, your arm,
and the light of your face, for you loved them.
–Psalm 44:1-3
