Reading From Numbers 3-4
“These were the names of the sons of Levi:
Gershon, Kohath and Merari…
…This is the work of the Kohathites at the tent of meeting: the care of the most holy things…
“This is the service of the Gershonite clans in their carrying and their other work: They are to carry the curtains of the tabernacle… The Gershonites are to do all that needs to be done with these things…
…Count the Merarites by their clans and families. Count all the men from thirty to fifty years of age who come to serve in the work at the tent of meeting. As part of all their service at the tent, they are to carry the frames of the tabernacle, its crossbars, posts and bases”
–Leviticus 3:17 and Excerpts From Leviticus 4
It is extraordinary to me how every task in building, furnishing, setting up, packing up, and moving the Tabernacle was planned for by God through Moses and Aaron. Every detail of the Tabernacle is rich with spiritual symbolic significance and yet all the practical, physical needs of facilitating the worship of Yahweh were carefully explained. This elaborate system enabled the Levites to efficiently move this portable temple from Sinai to the Promised Land of Canaan without moder roads or moving trucks. I am in awe of the glory of God and His Word.
Planning is an important part of God’s ministry. It alleviates stress and worry in carrying out events, projects and programs intended to spread the love and message of Jesus to our local communities and around the world. Spontaneous ministry should happen as a part of our daily lives, but it is also healthy to be intentional in planning ways to obey the Great Commandment to love others and fulfill the Great Commission to make disciples. One of the great things about having a well-thought plan is that it can be presented to other followers of Christ in order to provide them with another opportunity to serve God and grow with Him.
“Lord Jesus, I pray that You will open my eyes to opportunities in my everyday life to reach out to others with Your love and message. Give me knowledge and wisdom to plan events, projects and programs that honor You and efficiently and effectively share Your truth with people right where they’re at in life. I pray that my brothers, sisters and I will give generously of our time, talents, energy and resources to see Your Kingdom expanded. Let Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Amen.”
The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.
–Proverbs 21:5
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
–Proverbs 16:3
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
–Jeremiah 29:11-13
